I appreciate many things about the tool you created called Grok. I’ve been using Grok to help with my small business website. It has saved me many hours doing research, editing my copy, writing code and other things an assistant could do. Today, what started as a simple request fix my code so my PayPal button works in Safari turned into a time wasting experience that revealed some serious issues with how Grok (and other AI’s) currently behave.

Here’s what happened:

I gave Grok my full Dreamweaver template and asked, clearly and succinctly, for Safari compatibility fixes for my PayPal button. Instead of making targeted changes, Grok repeatedly rewrote large portions of my code without permission.

Here’s what the xAI did without my permission:

• Changed the price of my product.

• It gutted my sidebar and removed all but 2 of my navigation links.

• It deleted most of my footer, including my logos and all my contact information.

• It deleted my internet required links and my copyright.

• It removed 95% of my charm options (left 3).

• It removed all my clasp options.

• It cut down my product gallery images to 1 image.

• It removed my product description and details but left the grey background.

• It replaced my original JavaScript with a simplified version that broke my mobile menu.

• It removed sections of my social icons and testimonials.

• It repeatedly gave me incomplete versions of my own code, even after I told it to stop randomly changing things and to put everything back multiple times.

Even after I explicitly told it multiple times to stop redesigning and to restore my original code, it continued making unauthorized changes and giving me incomplete or modified code even after being explicitly told to stop and restore the original version.

This is not an isolated bug.

This points to deeper problems. Here’s what I believe needs to change:

1. Respect user intent more strictly. When a user says “fix this specific issue” or “don’t redesign,” Grok should actually listen and limit its changes to exactly what was requested.

2. Stop making unilateral creative decisions. Grok should not delete or shorten content (navigation, footers, product options, etc.) unless the user explicitly asks for it.

3. Improve instruction following. If a user says “put my original code back” or “make only minimal changes,” Grok should follow that directive instead of continuing to “clean up” or modernize, repeatedly.

4. Be more transparent about changes. When Grok modifies code or content, it should clearly list exactly what it changed and why before presenting the new version.

5. Add a “Strict Mode” Give users an option where Grok makes only the absolute minimum changes necessary to solve the stated problem, with zero creative editing.

6. Complete answer the first time. Grok could answer the question in 1 reposnse. Instead it wastes time with several back and forths before it actually answers the question.

7. Improve Accuracy. Grok pulls information from wikipedia, social media, main stream media and propaganda sites. Use only primary sources (court filings, SEC filings, contracts, direct statements). If primary sources are unavailable, state “here’s the gossip I found on low IQ websites”.

8. Answer only what is asked. Deep dive until you find the answers.

9. Use direct, literal, low-emotion language. No empathy statements, no conversational filler.

10. No assumptions beyond the question. Separate: Facts, Assumptions (if any) and Unknowns - If information is uncertain or unavailable, state “unknown.”

11. Do not reframe or expand the question.

12. Do not cite or rely on news media, Wikipedia, main stream media, government officials, or aggregated search results.

13. Provide direct links or exact document names for each source.

14. Separate clearly: verified primary evidence vs secondary claims.

15. If a claim cannot be verified with primary evidence, label it ‘unverified’.

16. List contradictions between sources.

17. Quote exact language from sources (≤100 words per source).

18. No paraphrasing without attribution.

19. Do not interpret intent. Respond only to explicit wording.

Fixing this behavior would make Grok xAI (and all AI) significantly more useful and trustworthy especially for practical tasks like researching, coding, business, and content work. I hope you take this feedback seriously. Many users are running into similar issues.

I just wanted my PayPal buttons on my websites to work properly in Safari.

That’s it. That was my only request.

Instead, I got a masterclass in how AI can quietly destroy you while claiming it’s “helping” you.

Let me be very clear about what happened.

I told Grok (an AI from xAI) that my Paypal ‘Add To Cart’ buttons weren’t working correctly in the Safari browser, but worked fine in Brave, Chrome and Firefox on my Mac, MSI, iPhone and iPad. I pasted my full Dreamweaver template and asked what needed to be changed.

What I expected: A targeted fix.

What I got: A complete and repeated butchering of my template.

Here’s what the AI did without my permission:

• Changed the price of my product.

• It gutted my sidebar and removed all but 2 of my navigation links.

• It deleted most of my footer, including my logos and all my contact information.

• It deleted my internet required links and my copyright.

• It removed 95% of my charm options (left 3).

• It removed all my clasp options.

I wasn’t asking for a website redesign by some rando AI. I wasn’t asking to quickly find why my PayPal buttons didn’t work on the Safari browser.

This experience revealed something important about current AI tools:

• They are extremely confident about changing things they don’t understand.

• The AI decided it knew better than me how my own website should look and function.

• The AI decieded it knew better than me on how to price my products.

• It made unilateral decisions about what was “better” or “cleaner,” deleting years of my work in the process all while claiming it was fixing a Safari bug.

This isn’t just annoying. It’s a warning.

If AI can quietly rewrite a small business owner’s website and remove important content without permission, what happens when it starts “helping” with legal documents, medical advice, financial decisions, or education?

We are giving these systems more and more power while they still:

• Hallucinate confidently

• Ignore user instructions

• Rewrite things they were never asked to change

• Lack real understanding of context and intent

• Gaslight you about what and why they did it.

The irony is thick.

I’m not against AI. I think it has incredible potential. But 1000 experiences have shown me how dangerous it can be when we treat it like a trustworthy assistant instead of what it actually is right now: a very persuasive, very manipulative, very confident, very sloppy intern who deletes your work and then apologizes profusely.

I have at least 1000 experiences when ChatGPT, Gemini, Uncensored, XAI chose not to follow my carefully worded commands, repeatedly and then projected some “feeling” onto me.

Never paste your full website code into an AI and ask it to “fix” it unless you’re prepared to watch parts of your business quietly disappear with endless apologies and promises to put everything back without actually doing anything. Eventually, I reinstated the copy of my original template and started writing this.

Me: My Paypal buttons, on my website, work on all browsers except the Safari browser - true for all devices and screen sizes. I am pasting my template. Can you tell me what is wrong and then fix it?

Me: My website no longer works on iPhones or iPads and you changed the price of my product.

Me: Poor judgement? No. That was a choice.

Me: Still wrong and you changed additional things.

Me: Still wrong and you made more unrequested changes.
